- Your pet gets sick or hurt: pet health insurance helps pay covered vet bills for accidents and illnesses.
- Your dog injures someone: dog liability insurance can help with claims from other people, especially if your dog has a bite history or your landlord requires proof of coverage. That page covers Colorado rules; outside Colorado, call us.
- You care for other people’s pets: pet care business insurance helps protect sitters, walkers, groomers and trainers, and can include coverage for animals in your care.
Many pet owners need more than one. A dog owner might carry pet health insurance for vet bills and rely on a homeowners or renters policy, or a separate dog liability policy, for injuries to others, though some policies limit or exclude certain dogs or dogs with a bite history.
Why pet owners work with Chelsea
We’re a family-owned independent agency based in Firestone, Colorado. The people who answer the phone are the people who work on your coverage, and we’ll explain waiting periods, exclusions and deductibles in plain English before you choose.
As an independent agency, we can look at more than one insurance company for you. Availability, plans and pricing vary by state and insurance company.

Questions to ask before you buy
- Does the plan or policy cover what you actually worry about — a big emergency vet bill, a bite claim, or an injury to a client’s pet?
- What does it exclude, and how are pre-existing conditions or prior incidents handled?
- What are the deductible, limits and waiting periods?
- If a landlord, HOA or client requires proof of insurance, will this policy meet their requirement?
We’ll go through each of these with you before you choose. If an option doesn’t fit, we’ll say so.
Pets and your other policies
Your homeowners or renters policy may include personal liability that responds to a claim involving your dog, subject to its terms. A personal umbrella may add limits on top. If you’re not sure how your current policies treat your pets, send us your declarations pages and we’ll read them with you.
